1. Nature

El Malpais, National Monument in NM

The National Park Service brochure, says Where Sharp Lava Meets Smooth Sandstone, and there is so much beauty in nature here, why I put this gallery here, rather than with travels.
In spanish El Malpais means badlands. It's volcanic features include jagged spatter cones, a lava tube system extending at least 17 miles, and fragile ice caves. The Puebloan peoples
of Acoma, Laguna, and Zuni, and the Ramah Navajo have been and still are here, and were at the fringe of a system centered in Chaco Canyon, where I also have images of. I've commented
certain images, just to share a bit more, and will be adding more images with future visits.

  • Okay, I admit I'm not a typical photographer to take pictures of lichen, but the artist in me appreciates these composite organisms consisting of a symbiotic association of a fungus with a photosynthetic partner, as just another form of nature's beauty, being able to make a home on a rock exposed to all kinds of weather conditions.
